'Another example of the poor leadership': Palmer slams 'uninformed' Dems as partial government shutdown over DHS funding ends

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) discussed the now-ended partial government shutdown on Capitol Hill during Tuesday morning's edition of WVNN's "The Dale Jackson Show."

The House of Representatives passed a bill to end a partial government shutdown on Tuesday, providing temporary funding for several federal agencies.

According to Palmer, the shutdown was primarily a result of the "uninformed" left blocking additional funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, specifically for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"The interesting thing is, they started out saying that they wanted to defund ICE," Palmer said. "Well, apparently, they're so uninformed, they didn't realize that ICE had been funded in the One Big, Beautiful Bill, or the Working Families Tax Cut bill through 2029."

Palmer then accused liberals of "holding the American people hostage" and referenced the shutdown's possible impact on services provided by the Transportation Safety Administration and Federal Emergency Management Agency.

"I don't understand their thinking on this, that they think they're going to hold us hostage and the American people hostage over this," said Palmer. "Do they want to defund the Transportation Safety Administration, TSA? Do they want to defund FEMA? When you've got states that are dealing with massive damage from the winter storm, that's what they're going to wind up doing."

He added, "There might be some legitimate discussion about some procedural changes or policy changes, but I don't know what they think they're going to get."

"This is another example of the poor leadership on their side, not realizing the full scope of the issue," concluded Palmer.

President Donald Trump has said that he would sign the bill once it reaches his desk.
