What they’re saying: Delegation statements on vote to impeach Secretary of Defense Alajandro Mayorkas

February 14, 2024

After narrowly losing the first vote to impeach Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last week after four members crossed over to vote against the measure, the House voted in favor of H.Res.863, a resolution introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for high crimes and misdemeanors. It passed the House 214-213. This is what the delegation had to say about their votes.

Congressman Gary Palmer:

“Secretary Mayorkas took an oath to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States.’ He took an oath before giving congressional testimony to tell the truth. Secretary Mayorkas has violated his oath in both counts. In an effort to cover up his failure to do his job and secure the border, he committed perjury by lying to Congress under oath. Our border is in chaos and the only enforcement is from the drug cartels imposing their will on the American people. Secretary Mayorkas may have a right to believe in open borders, but he has no right to keep his current employment.”

Congressman Barry Moore:

“Secretary Mayorkas deliberately opened our borders and allowed nearly 10 million illegals to invade our country on the taxpayer’s dime,” said Moore. “If his mouth is moving, he’s lying. Mayorkas has violated the law and his oath of office, putting American families in danger and causing chaos in our cities, and it’s past time for him to be held accountable.”

Congressman Jerry Carl:

“It’s way past time to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable. Our Southern Border is wide open, and Secretary Mayorkas has done absolutely nothing to bring relief to the crisis the Biden administration has created. President Biden inherited the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years, and 3 years into his presidency, we are seeing the highest-ever rate of illegal immigrants pouring into our country.

The state of our border is a growing national security threat with over 160 people from the FBI’s terrorist watch list coming into our country through the Southern Border – and those are just the ones we’ve caught. Not to mention, the drugs and human trafficking flowing across every single day. Secretary Mayorkas took an oath to defend and protect our country when he was sworn in as Secretary of Homeland Security, and he has completely failed to fulfill that oath. There is blood on his hands, and it is past time that he be held accountable for failing to do his job.

We must address this crisis and protect all Americans. Securing the border and ensuring the safety and security of all Americans is one of my top priorities, and I can promise you, I will not stop fighting until we get this crisis under control.”

Congressman Dale Strong (upon the passage of the Homeland Security Committee vote):

“A yearlong investigation conducted by the House Committee on Homeland Security revealed numerous instances where Secretary Mayorkas has blatantly disregarded his obligation to his oath and to the American people. Mayorkas has willfully refused to comply with and enforce federal immigration law as passed by Congress.

“Make no mistake, this border crisis is the direct result of Mayorkas’ failure to enforce federal law. In the last three years, Americans have watched the chaos and devastation that has unfolded at our Southern border. Our nation is in the midst of a historic national security and public safety crisis.

“I am pleased that Committee Republicans have taken action to hold Mayorkas accountable for his absolute failure to execute the laws passed by Congress meant to provide for the safety and security of our homeland.”
