Palmer Honors the Memory of Lance Corporal Thomas Rivers on Memorial Day
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Gary Palmer (AL-06) has released the following statement in observance of Memorial Day and in honor of the late Lance Corporal Thomas Rivers, a former resident of Alabama's Sixth District, who was killed in line of duty in 2010:
"For the last 11 years, Memorial Day has had a whole different meaning for me. On April 28th, 2010, in the Helmund Province of Afghanistan, Lance Corporal Thomas Rivers gave his life in defense of our nation. Each Memorial Day, I think of Thomas's family and friends, and I am reminded of the high price that has been paid for our freedom. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, and the families of all those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom. I pray that today you will feel the gratitude of your fellow Americans for the sacrifices your families have made. God bless you."
Lance Corporal Thomas Rivers was a resident of Hoover and graduate of Briarwood Christian High School. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
