Washington D.C. – Following his vote against the Democrats’ latest reckless tax and spending bill, Rep. Gary Palmer (AL-06), Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, released the following statement:
“If congressional Democrats were honest, they would have named this bill ‘The Income Reduction Act.’ Instead of reducing inflation, the bill increases taxes and when you remove the numerous budget gimmicks it will increase our current deficit by at least $110 billion,” said Rep. Gary Palmer. “Middle class Americans cannot afford to buy expensive electric vehicles, but this bill gives tax incentives to those who already can afford them. Instead of lowering the costs of prescription drugs, this bill implements price controls that will undercut funding for drug research and deny access to lifesaving medications. This bill funds policies directly from the Green New Deal that will harm the economy and unleashes a new army of IRS agents on the hardworking taxpayers.”
Palmer concluded, “To say this bill is disappointing is an understatement. This bill will not cleanup or coverup any ongoing crisis the Biden Administration has created; however, it could make them worse. Our supply chains will still be dependent on foreign adversaries. Energy prices will remain high, especially on low-income families who will be trying to heat their homes this winter, and farmers will be forced to pay more to plant their crops. Our southern border will remain under assault. The only correct vote on this bill is a resounding no.”
