Palmer: Waters of the U.S. Rule Prime Example of EPA Overreach

Washington D.C. – Today, Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL), a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Interior and the House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Environment, voted for S.J. Res. 22 which would nullify the so-called “Waters of the United States” rule that allows for onerous environmental regulations that apply to even the smallest bodies of water, such as ponds and ditches, which will cause great harm to many farmers and ranchers.

“Reining in executive branch overreach, particularly at the EPA which is one of the worst offenders, remains one of my highest priorities in Congress,” Palmer said. “The EPA has not listened to the public, which overwhelmingly rejects the idea that the EPA should be able to regulate ponds and ditches and other small bodies of water on private land. This is another example of EPA overreach and I am pleased to join my colleagues in voting to stop it.”

Palmer previously called on Congress to take further action to stop the Waters of the US Rule.
