Team of Two Students from Alabama School of Fine Arts Wins 2020 Congressional App Challenge
Birmingham, AL – Congressman Gary Palmer (AL-06) is pleased to announce Ethan Forrest and Aaron Piya as the winners of the 2020 Congressional App Challenge in Alabama's Sixth Congressional District. This contest provides a valuable opportunity for middle and high schoolers to develop their skills in computer coding, math, science, and related subjects by creating an original application. This year's winning team attends the Alabama School of Fine Arts, and their app, titled "Quizmo," acts as a learning tool for English language and standardized test studies.
"I'm thoroughly impressed with Ethan and Aaron's creation for the App Challenge," Palmer said. "They have created a valuable study tool for learning environments while showcasing innovation and user-friendliness. STEM skills are increasingly important in today's work and academic environments, and this app is an easy indicator that these young men will go far. They should be proud of their hard work."
"Quizmo" is an app designed to make learning a more enjoyable experience by way of a game function. It uses sounds to harness reward sensations in the user while also incorporating a competitive aspect through a scoreboard feature within the app.
Application submissions were judged by Mr. Steven Puckett and Dr. Shane Banks of the University of North Alabama, Mr. Kris Bishop of Integrated Legacy Systems, and Mr. Ralph Stevens of C-Spire. The winning students will receive recognition certificates from Congressman Palmer and will have the chance to present their app during a coding fair in spring 2021.
