Republicans in Alabama's congressional delegation voted in favor of the passage of a continuing resolution to end a lengthy government shutdown on Wednesday.

The House passed a clean government funding extension on September 19. However, Senate Democrats voted against it 14 times, leading to a 40-day government shutdown.

November 12, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives passed a bipartisan Continuing Resolution (CR) to end the longest government shutdown in the history of the United States. Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL06) voted in favor of reopening the government.

The House passed a bill Wednesday to end the nation's longest government shutdown, sending the measure to President Donald Trump for his signature after a historic 43-day funding lapse that saw federal workers go without multiple paychecks, travelers stranded at airports and people lining up at food banks to get a meal for their families.

UPDATE: 9:28 p.m.President Trump has signed the measure. 

Alabama’s Republican delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives hailed Wednesday night’s vote to finally reopen the federal government. It now goes to President Donald Trump for his signature.
