The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday voted largely along party lines to approve a bill by Rep. Bradley Byrne, R-Fairhope, to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The final vote was 239-186, with all but three Republicans in favor and all Democrats opposed. It was the 56th time the House has voted to junk the law known as Obamacare since Congress passed it in 2010.

On Wednesday, January 27, hundreds of Alabama school children and their parents joined Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) in a rally in front of the state capital demanding that the state of Alabama offer more education choices to students such as charter schools and expanding the controversial Alabama Accountability Act.

Freshman Rep. Gary Palmer traveled to the U.S. border with Mexico over the weekend as part of a 23-member bi-partisan Congressional delegation on border security. The trip, led by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, included visits to border sites in California, Arizona, and Texas.

On Thursday, January 22 tens of thousands of marchers (including many from Alabama) were in Washington D.C. to protest what they believe is the ongoing slaughter of millions of unborn American children.  U.S. Representative Gary Palmer and Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead released statements on the annual March for Life event in Washington D.C.
