For Immediate Release Washington D.C. – Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL), a member of the Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Environment and the Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on the Interior, both of which have jurisdiction over the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), sent a letter along with Science, Space and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith concerning the EPA’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) to the Governors and Attorneys General of all 50 states. The letter urges the states to delay submitting a State Implementation Plan (SIP) until all of the numerous legal challenges to the rule are exhausted. Submitting a SIP is optional under the law.

President Barack Obama praised a massive $612 billion defense spending bill Thursday before vetoing it in a rebuke of the GOP.

WASHINGTON — Earlier this month Congress passed on a bipartisan basis the $612 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) funding the country's military and national defense. Thursday afternoon President Obama vetoed the NDAA, disagreeing with an increase in military action spending without increases in domestic spending.

For Immediate Release Washington D.C. – Today, Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL), a member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee and a longtime supporter of expanded educational options, voted for H.R. 10, the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results Reauthorization Act. This bill would reauthorize the District of Columbia’s Opportunity Scholarship Program (DC OSP) which gives scholarships to low-income families in the District of Columbia to attend a private school of their choice.

For Immediate Release Washington D.C. – Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL), a member of the House Budget Committee, is a cosponsor of H.R. 692, the Default Prevention Act. Introduced by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), the bill passed the House today by a vote of 235 to 194. This bill would ensure that the debt of the United States is always paid, and default is always avoided, by ensuring that the Treasury can always borrow for the sole purpose of paying the principal and interest on the debt held by the public, or the Social Security Trust Fund.

Hoover merchants gathered Oct. 15 to hear U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer speak at the monthly chamber of commerce meeting at the Hyatt Regency-Wynfrey Hotel.

Palmer was elected as the representative for Alabama's sixth congressional district in 2014. He is a Hoover resident.

Palmer spoke at length about his work in Congress. He sits on the budget committee and recently was part of creating the balanced budget plan that the House passed.

HOOVER—The United States budget and lowering the national debt were the two main issues U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Alabama, touched on during an Oct. 15 talk at the Hoover Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

"We've got some good folks in Washington, we're working on some key things," Palmer said. "We passed the first House budget that we've passed in six to eight years."
