HELENA–The Helena Fire Department has learned that it will be the new recipient of a much needed new emergency medical/operations vehicle through a grant received from the Department of Homeland Security. Congressman Gary Palmer announced on Aug. 31 that the Helena Fire Department received an Assistance to Firefighters grant for $176,191. The department’s application competed against thousands through a peer review process for a portion of federal funding.

Tonight, Alabama voters in the sixth district got a chance to meet their Congressman.

Gary Palmer made a stop in Vestavia Hills tonight. Palmer is hosting a series of town hall meetings within his district. These meetings allowed the public to ask questions, and get Palmer's opinions on issues facing America.

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Hoover, strongly criticized the pending nuclear deal with Iran during a town hall meeting Monday night at Vestavia Hills City Hall. The agreement was the most asked about topic during the meeting along with frustration over Republican congressional leaders.

For the past 15 years, a little-known Alabamian has been a secret weapon for some of Congress's most conservative lawmakers. He calls himself a "Happy Warrior," who is a level 15 conservative on scale of 1-10. And he has a famous name, though he's never been confused with a movie star while walking around Capitol Hill.

His name is William Smith. And at first blush, his life probably sounds pretty familiar to many people from the South.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson of North Dakota issued a temporary injunction against the controversial “Waters of the United States” rule Thursday which would have given the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unprecedented authority over irrigation, puddles, and ditches.

Friday, August 21 U.S. Representative Gary Palmer (R from Hoover) announced in a statement that he strongly opposes the EPA’s newly proposed rule on methane emissions that will apply to new or modified oil or natural gas sources. Palmer warned that the effect of the strict new rules will be to discourage the development of America’s vast untapped energy reserves and to increase the cost of energy. Rep. Palmer cited a study conducted by the University of Texas in coordination with the Environmental Defense Fund, Palmer noted that methane admissions represented approximately 0.38 percent of the total natural gas withdrawal and production in 2012.
