U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, representing Alabama's 6th District including all of Blount County, announced during a visit to Oneonta last week that he will open a field office in Oneonta City Hall. It will be the first legislative office in Blount County for a number of years. The office, to be manned by a member of the congressman's staff, will be open the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, Palmer announced in a release Monday.
WASHINGTON — Representatives Gary Palmer (R-AL6) and Mo Brooks have signed on to co-sponsor this year's Fair Tax bill in the U.S. House, signaling even more support from the Alabama congressional delegation for an overhaul of the tax code.
U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, and four representatives have signed on to legislation to make it easier for pistol permit holders to carry their weapons to other states.
Currently, permits to carry concealed guns are valid only in states that have negotiated reciprocal agreements. That leaves gun owners at potential risk of breaking the law even in some states that issue pistol permits. South Carolina, for instance, has not reciprocal agreement with Alabama.
