E&E DAILY | Three House Republicans plan to introduce legislation Thursday that would scrap federal waivers that allow California to impose stricter air pollution standards for vehicles.

It is the latest — and most coordinated — move this year in an ongoing Republican attack on federal Clean Air Act waivers for California mandates, some of which date back to the Obama administration.

The House of Representatives passed eleven Committee on Oversight and Government Reform bills this week aimed at combating fraud and improper payments in federal programs, according to a June 11 announcement. The legislative package follows revelations of widespread fraud in federally funded, state-administered programs in Minnesota, California, and Ohio.

On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Secure America Act to fund U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The roughly $70 billion package will fund the two agencies through the end of President Donald Trump's term. The Republican-led effort passed 214-212.

Alabama's congressional delegation praised the passage of the Secure America Act on Tuesday after the House approved the nearly $70 billion border security package on a 214-212 vote.

The bill funds U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection through September 2029, locking in resources for the remainder of President Trump's term. The Senate passed the bill on a 52-47 party-line vote last week.

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) is calling out Democrat states for placing burdensome regulations on businesses, which has resulted in higher costs for consumers.

"Far-left states like California have weaponized the Clean Air Act to create expensive, burdensome and unworkable requirements that hurt businesses and make everyday life more expensive," Palmer said.
