Winter in Washington Update
Socialism has gained broad support among the 20s-30s age range. This is not surprising when you consider that the American education system has abandoned teaching the positive aspects of U.S. history, the details of the free market system, and the path to America's place as a land of promise to the world. Every generation of Americans has a duty to pass on the values and virtues that made our country a land of such promise and opportunity, but we have sadly fallen short in that responsibility. Our education system is failing to teach the younger generations foundational aspects of America's formation, so it is now not surprising to see increased support for socialism among young people. I feel strongly that these deficiencies in our education system need to be highlighted, and I was able to discuss it in detail in an article that The Washington Times recently featured. Here is an excerpt:
"In 1992, Richard Lamm, the former Democratic governor of Colorado, wrote, ‘There has been a great unbalancing in America. We have unbalanced community in favor of individualism; responsibilities in favor of rights, and duties in favor of privileges. We want education without study; wealth without work; freedom without participation; and democracy without citizenship.'"
