On Wednesday, January 27, hundreds of Alabama school children and their parents joined Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) in a rally in front of the state capital demanding that the state of Alabama offer more education choices to students such as charter schools and expanding the controversial Alabama Accountability Act.

Freshman Rep. Gary Palmer traveled to the U.S. border with Mexico over the weekend as part of a 23-member bi-partisan Congressional delegation on border security. The trip, led by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, included visits to border sites in California, Arizona, and Texas.

On Thursday, January 22 tens of thousands of marchers (including many from Alabama) were in Washington D.C. to protest what they believe is the ongoing slaughter of millions of unborn American children. U.S. Representative Gary Palmer and Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead released statements on the annual March for Life event in Washington D.C. and the House passage of legislation to make the federal funding of abortions illegal.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley congratulated the City of Birmingham Thursday for its successful bid to host the 2021 World Games, and praised Alabama's Southern hospitality.

"Congratulations to the city of Birmingham on being chosen to host the 2021 World Games," Bentley said in a statement. "Alabama has so much to offer and we are eager to roll out the red carpet for our national and international guests."
